Shreeyaa Popat
The radiant and exquisite Shreeyaa Popat is a Kathak Exponent and Educator. She is the youngest and last disciple to have mentored under the tutelage of her Guru ‘Naad-Nritya Yogi’ Acharya Pt.Anupam Rai ji.Her dance seamlessly fusions the grace and laasya from the Lucknow tradition with the briskness and intricate compositions characteristic of the Jaipur schools of Kathak dance form. Shreeyaa aims to impart her Guruji’s invaluable research-backed conceptions through her performances and kathak dance lessons such as mathematically structured Bandishes, traditional and innovative footwork phrases, hundreds of chhand Kavitta parans on various pauranic stories in different taal jatis, and emotionally imbued Abhinaya. Shreeyaa has also showcased one of her Guru’s major research works of sketching words on sawdust with dancing foot movements. Multifaceted Shreeyaa has accumulated significance and goodwill among artistes and enthusiasts owed to her perseverance and consistency.
About Training
Shreeyaa's training in Kathak Dance began at the age of 11 years. She was mentored authentically, aesthetically and philosophically under the stewardship of her Guru, the doyen "Naad-Nritya Yogi" Acharya Pandit Anupam Rai ji, following the ancient Guru Shishya tradition. She learnt the nuances of Lucknow & Jaipur schools of Kathak along with the special compositions of the Banaras & Raigadh schools of Kathak. Shreeyaa is one of the few fortunate pupils to have been accepted as a disciple by Acharya Pt.Anupam Rai ji by performing the ceremony of Gandabandhan.She is Pandit ji's youngest Kathak disciple as well as his last disciple to have nurtured under his tutelage.

Shreeyaa is accounted as one of the integral dancers in prominent and well-acclaimed dance ballets namely ‘Leela Madusudan Ki’ in Mumbai, ‘Swami Vivekanand’ in Ajmer, and ‘Anupam Srijan’ in Mumbai. Shreeyaa has been an awarded performer on various platforms such as Bombay Times Oppo Fresh Face, Inner Wheel Club of Bombay, Shree Gujarati Samaj Mumbai, etc.
Shreeyaa is a renaissance polymath who not only diffuses her cultural aroma through dance but is also an admired actress who has contributed to the Indian entertainment industry for 3 years.
Parallelly, Shreeyaa has been training pupils in Natwari Kathak Dance since over 7 years and has trained 300 + passionate learners of all age groups in Natwari Kathak globally through regular classes and workshops both in person and online. Her ‘Facial Expressions in Dance’ masterclass has benefitted over 200 students from all over the world.
Shreeyaa is also a choreographer and one of her recent works was as the Dance Director for ‘Laute Hain Raam’, a music video released on the auspicious Shri Raam Mandir opening, featuring Padma Shree Udit Narayan ji.
Shreeyaa has been featured in newspapers like Times of India, Bombay Times, Dupeher ka Samna, Marathi newspaper, Samna, Navbharat, Amar Ujala, Mathura newspaper, Mumbai Mirror, Tarun Bharat, Saptahiki, Dainik Bhaskar, Ajmer newspaper, Dainik Navjyoti and in several other local newspapers. Shreeyaa has also appeared as a jury in prominent daises like Ryan International School (CBSE) Malad, L. S Raheja School for ‘Parallax’, Shivam Dance Academy, RN Shah High School Mumbai, SIES College, Cosmopolitan Barfiwala School, Viva Nova Talen Competition at Vibgyor High, Swing & Swirl dance competition at Vibgyor High, Solo dance competition at Vivekanand College of Science, Arts & Commerce.
Shreeyaa is a perpetual learner and thus a content creator, she creates dance content on Instagram and YouTube where she has garnered a whooping fanbase of 30k + and 60k+ dance enthusiasts respectively.

KATHAK TO ME IS…….
Kathak to me is,
A breathing reality,
I call this my identity,
The cause and effect of my existence,
The force that preserves me when storms assail,
The calm that reassures me in times of hardship,
‘Tis not just a dance form or a hobby,
It is what I live, move, and breathe.
Kathak to me is,
That which explains every facet of life,
Arithmetic, History or Religion,
Philosophy, Physics or Psychology
That wordless explanation,
Expressions that language limits,
Finds its fulfillment in Kathak.
Kathak is defined as “The one who tells stories”,
Just as life is a composition of a million little stories,
Kathak is the string that enjoins all the scattered pearls of life,
Not a single dull day with Kathak,
Ushering me into the best version of myself,
Rendering the kind of sensitivity that I need, to do life with grace.
I doubt if I could ever find myself a lifetime,
Doing anything other than
Fluttering, twirling, and prancing in my ankle bells,
Be it in solitude or before a packed stadium,
In Kathak, I’ve found myself.
